CFIDS BILL BECOMES LAW Connecticut CFIDS Bill Passed by Legislature; Signed Into Law By Governor. On June 28th, 1993, Governor P. Lowell Weicker, Jr. signed a bill into law which will shed light on an increasing medical problem in this state and across the country. The law directs the Connecticut Department of Health Services to implement, using existing structures, state wide informational outreach programs. They include medical, patient and public education of Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS). State Representative Melody Currey (Democrat from East Hartford) was the sponsor of this historic legislation. "I am not aware of another law quite like this one," she said. "Rhode Island and Nevada considered more general CFIDS proclamation bills in their state houses this session," explained Currey. "There is a tremendous amount of medical information available about CFIDS," said Maggie McKenzie, President of the Connecticut CFIDS Association, during the signing ceremony. The legislation represents a first step in changing this situation, and the Association and all of the patients with CFIDS (PWC's) are grateful to Representative Melody Currey for her vision regarding the scope of this problem, and her compassion for those who are ill with CFIDS."
