      In Egyptian mythology, Mercury is called Thoth and in Egyptian astrology, Canis Major is the constellation of Thoth. Sirius is the main object in the constellation Thoth. [Canis is a dog, jackal and a wolf].
      The spouse of Thoth is Maat, corresponding to the constellations Virgo (♍) and Libra (♎) in astrology, and to Me in Babylonian mythology [explaining both the origin of the name ME and the Babylonian confusion of different names].
    • Mercury as a link between the planet, the Canis constellations, and the Moon.
      Thoth (the Cynocephalus, an ape - or human - with a dog's head resembling a Werewolf) shows the way for the dead to the Seat of Judgment of Osiris. Cynocephalus is symbolic of the Moon and Thoth of the planet Mercury. [Because of the ancient belief that the Moon follows Mercury about the heavens, the dog-ape Cynocephalus as Canis Minor (Horus) is described as the faithful companion of Canis Major (Thoth)].

    The Celestial Equator (left to right: East to West, 8 to 3 hours; top: North) and the constellations Canis Minor (Horus, the Falk, the Calf; the Crocodile), Canis Major (Thoth; the Baboon), Orion (Osiris), Taurus (the Bull), and the Milky Way (Hathor, the Cow; the Nile, the Primal Snake). Sirius (Isis, the 'chest star' in Canis Major), Procyon (the right 'eye' in Canis Minor) and Betelgeuse (the right 'axilla' of Orion) are the vertices of the Winter Triangle asterism. On the Date of Mercury, the Sun enters the Constellation Taurus and at the helical rising of Sirius, the Sun is in Gemini, explaining the name Procyon in Canis Minor.

    Egyptian mythology
    Osiris and Isis (and Taurus and Hathor) are the parents of Horus. Thoth (Mercury, Canis Major) cured the left 'eye' (Gomeisa) of Horus (Canis Minor).

    Greek mythology
    Orion is Geryon, Canis Major and Minor are the two-headed Dead Dog Orthos of Geryon and Taurus is the cattle of Geryon (see tenth Labour of Herakles). There are numerous variants about Orion himself (where Asklepian resurrects Orion) and the mythology of Cephalus (the Head), Canis Major (Laelaps, the hunting hound of Cephalus, always catching its prey), with Canis Minor being removed from the Sky, might also be relevant.

    Roman mythology

  • Astrometry (Celestial geometry).
      The right ascension (0≤α<24 hours) of an object, the celestial longitude relative to the Vernal Equinox (α=0 hours), increases from West to East (corresponding to the annual orbit of the Sun). Note that 1 hour equals 15 degrees.
  • Sun.
    • The Solar right ascension is α⊙.
    • Hell is the area East of the Sun: α⊙<α<α⊙+12 hours.
    • Heaven is the area West of the Sun: α⊙-12 hours<α<α⊙.
  • Sirius.
    • The Sirian right ascension is α⌓=6 hours 45 minutes 9 seconds.
    • Sirian heliacal setting: α⊙=α⌓+12 hours. This marks the astrological new year in the West (december 31 to january 1): Sirius goes from Heaven to Hell. [This is the ME-NET logo].
    • Sirian heliacal rising: α⊙=α⌓. This marks the astrological new year in Egypt (july 1-3): Sirius goes from Hell to Heaven. [This is the central concept and secret code of Freemasonry].
  • Moon.
    • The Lunar right ascension is α☾. The Sun gains on the Moon 11 times/year, the stars 12 times/year.
    • Heliacal setting of Moon: α⊙=α☾+12 hours. The Fool Moon goes from Hell to Heaven.
    • Heliacal rising of Moon: α⊙=α☾. The New Moon (Dark Moon) goes from Heaven to Hell.
      • Once a month Canis Major (Thoth) gains on the Moon (however, the daily passage is in the opposite direction: 'The Moon follows Mercury about the heavens') so Thoth can heal - obscuring the Full Moon - once a month.
      • 'Bad/Black/Dark Moon Rising' is the astrological source of many horror stories and satanic pop songs featuring Thoth as some kind of freak.
      • If there also is a Solar Eclipse pending or a heliacal rising of Sirius, the occult community becomes hysterical.
    • Instead of refering to the heliacal rising/setting, one can also refer to the lunar rising/setting of a celestial object.
